Zaia is a musician, homesteader, permaculturalist and sustainability advocate. She and husband Tom run permaculture designed farm "Maungaraeeda" on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia and teach permaculture and self reliance. Zaia teaches cooking and always comes up with new and different recipes to prepare the food she grows. She is a percussionist and is involved in various musical projects, including community music projects. She writes a regular blog about life on the farm and tries to post different articles as well.

Looking back on a great long weekend at CelebrATE!, a two day celebration of Permaculture, Music and Food. Workshops with Jason Davies, Amanda Moore, Tom Kendall, Jodie Williams and Zaia Kendall, a music jam with Linsey Pollak, performances by the Unusual Suspects, Mal Webb & Kylie Morrigan and the Formidable Vegetable Sound System and food by Black Ant Gourmet.
We are masters of trying to control our environment as humans, to the detriment of our species. We are so linear, we have removed ourselves completely from the natural environment and label everything. We need more holistic thinkers, more people that can see the whole picture and the amazing interaction between all the elements in a system…
Tom and I are excited to open our gates to people for CelebrATE! on Labour Day weekend, and to showcase our permaculture property which is currently providing us with around 90% of our food, 100% of our cooking energy needs and most of our animal feed.
The not for profit Permaculture Research Institute Sunshine Coast Inc. (www.permaculturesunshinecoast.org) is organising CelebrATE!, a two day celebration of Permaculture, Music and Food on our Permaculture Demonstration and Education site “Maungaraeeda” (Place of Food) in the Noosa Hinterland town of Kin Kin on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

Previously know as DIY Food and Health, we felt that our website had to reflect more who we are, rather than hiding behind a brand or different name. We are Tom Kendall and Zaia Kendall, a husband and wife team who live and breathe permaculture. Our property Maungaraeeda, which means place of food, supplies most of our daily needs. This requires a lot of hard work on a day to day basis, but it is enjoyable and extremely satisfying.
