Permaculture Design Certificate Course
Next PDC: 3 to 14 September 2018
Accredited 72 hour Permaculture Design Certificate course.
Camping accommodation is included in the Permaculture Design Certificate course (byo tent and camping equipment). A caravan with queen size bed and bedding is available at $40 per night for students (usual price $45 per night).
The Permaculture Design Certificate is a 72 hour theoretical course based on Bill Mollison’s Designers Manual. It teaches how we can use today’s tools and technology to create a more sustainable and equitable world for all species. Permaculture is more than just gardening, it is a design system for a sustainable lifestyle. The course is run by the Permaculture Research Institute Sunshine Coast Inc., taught by Tom Kendall and your certificate is accredited by PRI Australia, recognised and well regarded world wide.
To build a community spirit we encourage everyone to participate in communal activities for the time they spend at Maungaraeeda. You will be shown and required to participate in a number of aspects of sustainable and community living and Permaculture systems and routines. This will enhance your learning experience during the 2 weeks, as well as give you the feeling of belonging to a community and strengthening the bond of the group. We do not wish to focus on big numbers of students in the courses, instead we focus on high quality integration of course material by the students.
With smaller student numbers we are able to cater to individual needs of the students based on their travels of the permaculture journey. We have noticed a marked integration of the curriculum and concepts with the introduction of the morning animal routines and property maintenance.
Zaia cooks wholesome delicious food, grown and produced on the farm at Maungaraeeda. As we focus on smaller student numbers, we can supply most of the meals from the farm. Zaia is a holistic health coach and has studied and researched health and nutrition for the past 20+ years. Tom and Zaia invite you to share their meals with them, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and morning and afternoon tea during all course days. Middle weekend are days off and students can use the camp kitchen for those days. For some samples of Zaia’s cooking you can check out her recipes here.
During the PDC course you will be immersed in farm activities, from holistic animal management to feeding the biodigester, cream separating to yoghurt making and compost making to food forest planting. As this is a working farm with a lot of systems, everyone on the property can be fully involved in farm activities to get the most out of your stay at the permaculture farm and the PDC course. The practical activities also allow you to integrate the theoretical course material quicker.
Tom Kendall is a permaculture farmer with over 40 years farming experience. He is co-founder of the PRI Sunshine Coast Inc and PRI Luganville, Vanuatu and runs Permaculture courses on his Permaculture Demonstration Site “Maungaraeeda”. Tom has co-taught PDC courses with Geoff Lawton and has taught Permaculture courses in Australia and overseas. He is a PRI (Permaculture Research Institute) accredited teacher and is part of Geoff Lawton’s Permaculture Sustainable Consulting team and does regular consultations for local and international land owners and NGOs.
